Here’s the key difference between making friends in university and in high school or secondary school.
By the time you’ve made it to university, you’ve been through round about 10 years of formal education and not counting the out-of-class activities, that leaves a ton of opportunities to make friends, even best friends.
Elliot is someone I met when I was 7 and is one of my best friends in the world.

Making friends in university can be challenging for that simple fact - everyone already has a set of friends that they turn to.
But don’t let that stop you.
Being where you are means that you are surrounded with people who have similar passions as you, and if passion is not a reason to make friends or connect with people, I don’t know what is.
Jim was one of the first few friends I made as a freshman. (Don’t let these pictures fool you, I don’t just go running with my friends)

We connected over a similar journey of surviving university, slowly learning what we were interested in. Common interests soon led to spending time together, and I am proud to call him one of my best friends in university.
In a nutshell: making friends in university can be tough, but if there’s ever a place to find someone who’s “just like you”, this is it.
